ficlet, for kijikun @ 11:50 pm

Tags: ,

Because they're now available to me in a format I actually kind of like, and because anonymous trolls are awful:

Daniel is never going to admit it, but he prefers talking to Laurie - eating dinner with her, walking down the street with her, window shopping and playing the "what would I buy if I hadn't spent all my money on repairing Archie" game, bouncing an idea for modifications to his costume, or his gear off her and seeing what she thought -- to the sex.

He prefers fighting or saving people next to her, too.

Sex is... Only with adrenaline pumping through his veins is his need raw enough, intense enough to overcome the fact that her body, even muscled as it is, is soft where it should be hard, smells of women where it should smell of semen and musk, that even though he likes her, even maybe loves her, she's not what his body really wants.

Women aren't what his body really wants.

But right now, Archie is humming around them and they've only barely escaped the most recent fight with their lives, and Laurie is wearing nothing but her high-heeled black boots, writhing against him while he still has his mask on, and things are good.

And if he thinks of freckles dotting pale skin like ink blots when he kisses her shoulder, hears someone else's voice growling "Leave mask on," when she runs her hands over his cowl and breathes "Leave the goggles on. I want you to see me," sees blood spattered across snow and hears the sound of his own screaming when she climaxes with a choked-off little scream of her own, he's very careful never to tell her.

It feels too much like a betrayal, though he's not certain of whom.

Oh, wow. I love you more than a little bit for this. (And I so need to write the bunny that's been plaguing me since I saw the movie Thursday night)

hears someone else's voice growling "Leave mask on,"

I so hear Rorschach's voice in this and it broke my heart a little.

Yes! Write the bunny!

Seriously, your fic for this pairing is awesome - like crimsonquills, I'm not a huge fan of the graphic novel itself (other people find Frank Miller grating and annoying - I don't mind him so much burt have a similar problem with Alan Moore), but I enjoyed the movie a surprising amount and love the way you write them (with enough warm&fizzy to satisfy my fangirl heart, but without forgetting just how deeply screwed-up Rorschach is or making it too fluffy).

Nice. I have a hard time seeing this ship, but from Dan's point of view I can see it working.

Then again, maybe I just have a thing for "Patrick Wilson characters secretly fantasize about sociopaths while having sex with women," since I wrote a very similar drabble in Phantom of the Opera fandom.

Raoul was not my favorite character in that book, but imagining him having a thing for Eric somehow makes the Raoul/Christine pairing much more fun in my head now.

Haha, well, I don't like anyone in the book. In the film based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, though, I love Raoul (and actually kind of hate Erik, to be honest). That fandom (or "phandom") is not kind to Raoul fans, though. Most wanky fandom I've ever been in, and that's saying a lot.

English isn't my first language. I just can't realize smaller grammar mistakes like that, so, no worries. XD

Also: I think you should post that over owlblot, if you don't already did, course. :D

That may be the cutest name for a ship comm ever. I think I shall have to eat my "Gah, Watchmen is like Ultimates for Charleston comics characters! Do not want!" words regarding the original graphic novel and go stalk it. *grins* I've recently (like, this week) discovered that lurking on the /pco/ and/or /coq/-based fandom for Watchmen heals the pain reading Alan Moore's original comic inflicted on me.

This is probably because I haven't looked at anything on ff.net yet. If the terrifying "the Joker just needs my Mary Sue to love him" fics spawned by the Dark Knight are anything to go by... I'm really kind of afraid to see what that same batch of authors makes of Rorschach (and Ozymandias).

You know, before I get into English!fandom I never knew FF.Net have such bad fame. D: For we, portuguese speakers, it's okay.

Anyway, I was lurking over there and I've found a few good things. You should take a look. I put my favorite ones in my favorite stories. :)

"looks scared" Yes, ff.net is really that bad. I found a couple decent fics, but it's mostly Mary Sues (or OC's that they claim aren't Mary Sues, but will still somehow make Rorschach like women).

P.S. Please write more Watchmen fic. "gives puppy dog eyes of doom"

I feel doubley cheated, then -- if they want to write Rorschach het, why don't they just go write me toonverse Question/Huntress fluff? There's never enough of that. (Plus, Vic likes girls and doesn't have a tractor-traler full of issues re sex).

Yay! (Also, your fic with the surgery in the alley is beyond awesome, and the Twilight Lady one is just the perfect combination of hot and hurty and why are you and kijikun making me ship people from a comic I don't even like?)

I'm allowed to like Dan and Rorshach (from a distance, in a way that doesn't involve having to touch or smell him) and still dislike Alan Moore's sledghammery political commentary and WTF!aliens ending, right?

It's ok, I don't like the comic either, or the movie very much, for basically those reasons. But if you zoom in on Rorschach and Dan, you don't have to notice the rest of it...

This fic is, pretty much, exactly how things are with Dan and Laurie. Dead on.

The movie ending lacked both WTF!Aliens and Dan bleaching his hair blond and growing a stupid mustache, so I feel it was a general improvement (especially on the mustache/hair front). Also, it was very pretty.

It was also the most violent thing that wasn't a horror movie or war movie that I've ever seen, which I'm betting puts a lot of viewers off. I know more than one person in fandom who would probably not be able to sit through another moment of the film after seeing the Comedian murder the pregnant Vietnamese woman.

if you zoom in on Rorschach and Dan, you don't have to notice the rest of it...

That's what I plan to do when enjoying the fanworks for it (I can't help it; marginally stable person/colossally fucked-up violent person who needs someone to hold their leash is one of my pairing kinks from way back). Though actually, I've found that I like characters in the movie/fanfic/fandom discussions who left me totally cold in the comic. It seems all it takes is the magic touch of a writer who's not Alan Moore.

This fic is, pretty much, exactly how things are with Dan and Laurie. Dead on.

*blushes* Yay, thanks! One thing that struck me both in the comic and the move was that Dan and Laurie made much better friends than lovers.

Agreed. The absence of squidocalypse was a huge improvement; the movie ending in general made a lot more narrative sense. I don't really understand the need to turn all the violence up to 11 though. The book was plenty violent to begin with.

marginally stable person/colossally fucked-up violent person who needs someone to hold their leash is one of my pairing kinks from way back

NO FUCKING KIDDING. I feel kind of ashamed about how predictably this turns me on.

It's good to see you around this fandom. Hope you'll write more.

I don't really understand the need to turn all the violence up to 11 though.

The director is the same guy who did 300, which already had the violence dialled up to at least 9. My guess is that he felt the need to try and top his previous comic-book-adaptation project.

It was beautifully shot violence, though, I have to give it that -- the fight scenes were gorgeous. The bit where the guy was cut apart in order to open the cell door was too squicky for me, though (I actually found it harder to watch than the infamous dogs scene, which is one of the few times I'll seriously give Alan Moore props. The bit where Rorschach looks over at the dogs and finally realized exactly what they're eating is one of the better moments of stomach-turning horror I've read/seen).

NO FUCKING KIDDING. I feel kind of ashamed about how predictably this turns me on.

I try not to interrogate this kink too closely, for fear it will reveal uncomfortable things about my psyche.

I sadly don't think I'll be writing all that much for this fandom, though -- Steve/Tony still owns my soul, plus I have this nagging fear that a serious attempt to write Watchmen fic of any length would morph into a mutated JLU AU about The Question and Blue Beetle.

That said, I do have some kink meme prompt fic here.

(OH MY GOD MOVING SUCKS. HI, I AM BACK ON THE INTERNET.)

YESSS I have read her fic, and read through a bunch of owlblot comm stuff, and now I am out of fic and it is TERRIBLE. I see Watchmen again friday night, and since I saw the movie before I read the comic the first time I watched it I totally missed all of faceless!Rorschach, so now I will be WATCHING for him this time :D AND SQUEEING EEEEEEEEEE

....okay possibly I should also go to bed, it's kind of late and I appear to be embarrassing myself with capslock...

There's a lot of ficlets over at the Watchmen kink meme (including some decidedly non-kinky gen; it seems to basically have turned into a "kinks, crack, and ficlet prompts" meme).

ff.net reportedly has some fic, but apparently much of it is in the "Dark Knight Joker/Mary Sue fic, take II" vein.

This makes me sad and really happy at the same time. The entire thing is very poignant, and I enjoy how you made Laurie the perfect best friend ever with Dan being hung up on what he wants and can never have again.

Then again it's really late and I could just be in shock of the awesome.

Thanks! Dan/Rorscach/Laurie as an OT3 are my secret guilty pleasure when it comes to Watchmen fic (okay, no, they're my openly admitted to guilty pleasure. Eddie/Sally is my secret guilty pleasure because, well, yeah) but Dan/Laurie alone is not so much my thing. I think they work better as friends than lovers, too, without Rorschach to shake things up a bit.

There's a great fancomic out there by... someone... that has Laurie telling Dan, "Our friendship is the only positive relationship either of us has left! Quick, let's ruin it!"

Haha, that comic's great. I feel pretty much the same way. I love the OT3 because it combines two pairings I like, Dan/Rorschach and Laurie/Rorschach, but Dan and Laurie's relationship isn't really interesting to me unless Rorschach's throwing everyone off balance. With canon Dan/Laurie I'm like, "Oh honeys, I love you both, but no. No." But this is why we have fic!

re: Daniel...prefers talking to Laurie...to the sex

(Link)
Gah!

I could so see this happening too!

Though I read Daniel as a bisexual, but hey, our tastes shifts around, and Walter and Twilight Lady is probably closer to each other than Laurie to either of them, in taste (or it's how I feel about it at least).

The las paragraph is perfect, with the freckles and the ink blots and the snow and the choked screaming. I can sort of see those two walking up, than Daniel freezing a the door and staring at the snow in stopped motion, while Laurie hooks an arm around him.
