Snowflake challenge, day 3 @ 10:35 am

Slowly catching up...

Day 03: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I haven't really created much in the way of fanworks over the past year - most of it's been spent working on unposted original stuff - so I'm going to link my list from the last time I did something like this.

Three fanwork recs from 2015's snowflake challenge.

And also offer six pieces of pseudo-fanart created this year on Doll Divine, the internet's answer for people like me who have zero artistic ability but want to create images of our OCs and genderflipped versions of canon characters anyway. I guess you could say they "define me as a creator" because five of them involve shipping (definitely a linchpin part of my fannishness given how hard I OTP) and one is a joke I made entirely because Seanchai told me to ("because it was Seanchai's idea" also being the source of a number of collaborative fics).

Hank and Jan!
Cassie & Kang!
Karolina & Xavin!
Rule!63 Steve & Tony
The greatest Metal Gear ship of all! (according to Seanchai, anyway)
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only shipping!

Snowflake challenge, day 1 @ 03:52 pm

Only 11 days late! I thought briefly about backdating this to January first so the posts would all line up nice and need, but then decided to just go ahead and do the daily challenges out of order as I complete them.

Day 01: In your own space, talk about why you are doing the Fandom Snowflake Challenge? What drew you to it as a participant? What do you hope to accomplish by doing these challenges?

Snowflake challenge, day 11 @ 02:10 am

September 23rd, 2015

(no subject) @ 04:28 pm

*sighs* Seeing as it's been nearly a year since it first got screwed up, I suppose I need to finally accept that my osteo-arthritis/worn-away-cartilage knee isn't going to get any better and running is off the table for pretty much the rest of forever. 32 is supposed to be too young to have these kinds of knee problems - I only did 15 years worth of running, and not even serious running at that, rarely more than 3 miles/5k at a time, and usually at only about 6mph. (I probably shouldn't complain - seanchai's ankle has been screwed up for her entire life, and my sister can't eat anything with gluten or dairy in it, so I got off lightly when it comes to health issues)

Big Damn List o' Fic @ 03:17 pm

Elspethdixon's Big Damn Fanfic List

Being an index to every piece of extant-on-the-web fic by Elspethdixon since her freshman year of college, including the clichéd badfic, the abandoned WiPs, the one that turned up on McTabby’s Summary Executions, and the one with the word “orbs” in it. From Harry Potter to Pirates of the Caribbean, and beyond. Hopefully, the quality improves as ones moves down the page.

Big Damn ListCollapse )

Forward-dated to go at the top of my journal. Warnings are present in the headers on all multichapter fics. Warnings for ficlets will be provided upon request. All multichapter fics contain some degree of hurt/comfort.

Snowflake Challenge - day 2 @ 05:22 pm

As per [community profile] snowflake_challenge:

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

Fan Who Enjoys Thing Informed They Are Wrong @ 01:43 pm

Sometimes I wonder why I stay in fandom when nearly everything I like and enjoy is something good fans are supposed to sneer at and hate.

Then I remind myself to read this article again.

Never has tumblr (or the past 5+ years of LJ/DW fandom) been so perfectly summed up in a hundred words.

I blame Victor Hugo @ 05:56 pm

As if the Rocket/Groot feels of the movie weren’t enough ship feels for one fandom/segment-of-the-marvel-verse, I have now read Thanos Imperative.

People on my dash/flist who have been reading these comics all along, why didn’t you tell me there was an “If you will permit it”/”I’m glad you’re with me, Sam, here at the end of all things”/Bolivian Army Ending pairing I could have been shipping? (okay, with somebody who doesn’t show up in the movie, but still.)

"And then they died holding hands/fighting off enemies back-to-back" is my shipping kryptonite.

Why is so much 00Q fic so bad? Half the ones I try to read are all mushy and sappy and cutesy. James Bond does not do sappy and cutesy. Especially not Craig!Bond. Connery!Bond did groan-worthy one-liners, but he didn't do cutesy. Roger Moore!Bond did flirtatious and suave, but not sappy and cutesy.

It's because half of 00Q fandom have never watched a Bond movie other than Skyfall, isn't it? (You can tell by how the "Alec Trevelyan/006" they keep sticking in fic bears zero resemblance to the guy Sean Bean played in Goldeneye, sometimes to the point of being named "Alex Trevelyan" instead)

Also, why does Felix Leiter never show up? I know I'm biased by virtue of being a book fan who ships Bond/Felix, but come on, guys, he was in two of the three Craig bond movies. Throw me a bone here and give him a cameo once in a while.

Dinosaurs! (with feathers!) @ 10:41 am

Saw the Walking with Dinosaurs arena show last night - it was awesome! There was a baby T-rex and a giant flying pterosaur they hung from the ceiling with wires (and feathers on the raptors ^_^)

(The fact that they now know birds evolved from dinosaurs is nicely convenient for this kind of thing, because instead of ending with "and then the evil comet from space killed them all forever!" and making small children in the audience cry, they can now say "but not all dinosaurs died out; some of them turned into birds!")

Once every couple of months I'll get a crushing, so-bad-it-literally makes-you-throw-up headache, usually centered in my forehead and temples. I wish I knew what caused them, so I could figure out how to avoid them (it's not caffeine withdrawal, not caused by my glasses prescription, not a sinus headache... possibly they're migraines?)

I also wish they didn't inevitably start at work, where "not continuing to spend the next few hours staring at an LCD computer screen" is not an option.

My sister cosplays the lovechild of Carol Danvers and Sam Wilson.

(She's much prettier than me, btw. She's also 5'11", only a few inches shorter than Sam, so that bird really is about Redwing-sized.)

I wore a long skirt to church yesterday morning, something I almost never do, and when I came back home the Stevelet was both confused and mildly distressed by it.

Want rub ankles. Where ankles?! Very fabric. Much confusing. Wow.

(Then, of course, being our little ADD cat, he immediately forgot all about it the second something else caught his attention and everything was fine)
